Book of the Month: The One Book on Colour I Recommend to Everyone

If there were only one book that anyone curious about color should read, this is it!

Color Secrets was written by a woman who suffered from Hyaline Membrane Disease,
and whose childhood and adolescence were marked by bullying and serious health
challenges. During a long and isolated recovery, she describes colour as, “for quite
some time, my only friend.” That alone gives the book a very personal and moving
foundation.

This book tells you everything you ever wanted to know about color—and even things
you didn’t know you would want to know.

Color Secrets is packed with insights and bridges science and psychology in a way
that is both engaging and highly readable. Its sheer scope is impressive and exhaustive
without ever feeling exhausting for the reader. It covers everything from the visible light
spectrum and the science of color perception to its use in film, design, and cultural
symbolism. It even touches on fascinating ideas such as how each color has its own
frequency and connection to sound.

It also explores how color influences behavior, shapes identity, and can be used in
chromotherapy as a form of alternative healing. Perhaps my favourite part is the
explanation of how color psychology can help you understand why you may love — or
hate –certain colors. I see this all the time with my seasonal color analysis clients: color
is not just about what “looks good,” but also about what feels right and what resonates
on a deeper psychological level.

The book abounds with real-world applications, blending theory with practical examples
that help the reader truly see and experience color in a new way. It makes color
psychology accessible without oversimplifying it, presenting complex ideas with clarity
and making them applicable to everyday life.

From personal branding to political elections potentially being influenced by something
as simple as tie colors, Michelle Lewis shows just how much color shapes our
perceptions and emotions.

This is not just an informative read; it’s a transformative one.
